Topshop Lipsticks Secret Admirer and Ohh La La

Ohh la la & Secret Admirer

Whilst browsing Topshop the other day, I bought these two lipsticks on a whim. I remember seeing Zoe's blog posts and how much she liked them so I decided to give them a whirl. First up, the packaging. I do love the white body and scribble style writing on it but I wonder how long this will survive, without getting dirty and smothered in eyeliner or some sort.

Second comes the performance, which I like but I won't be singing my praises. They are priced at £8, which means it's definitely not high end, similar to the pricing of Revlon and Loreal but distinctly more expensive than one of my favourite lipstick brands, Rimmel. I picked up two colours, one a muted dusky pink and the other, a bright and pretty coral. Now, I suffer from dry lips, the flakey type, YUK I know and these lipsticks only tend to enhance it, especially the pink shade. The moisture factor is next to zero. The colour pay off? not great unfortunately, it took some layering to reach the desired marketed colour or maybe I am being too analytical by comparing it to the colour pay off you would encounter from a MAC lipstick? Maybe?
All in all, I don't rate these. £8 is not a great deal for a lipstick but for that £8, you can probably find better, like Rimmel which comes in around the £5 mark. To compare these to MAC? not comparable, MAC is way ahead in terms of colour, formulation and lasting power. I WILL be using these however as I do find the colours rather pretty, but I certainly won't be running back to purchase another. Maybe I will purchase another cream blush next time, I do rather love those!

What do you think about these lipsticks? Have you tried them?

  1. I really love the pink one! I might get that one for myself.

  2. I have ooh la la and really like it, it translates as nearly neon on me which I love. I do only wear it when my lips are in good condition though or else it emphasises it!x

  3. Phew! I suffer from dry lips too! This means I can scrap this off my "to-buy" list!
Have you tried the Kate Moss lipsticks? they're amazing!

  4. Love the colours, but I just find it a waste to spend my money on these when I can grab a MAC lippie for the same price thanks to my MAC Pro card. After reading this, I have definitely not changed my mind, but I will make sure to check out the Rimmel counter!

  5. both of lipsticks are amazing!

  6. I totally agree about the embracing of dry lips, i am the exact same as you and i HATE it. But the colour is too pretty! I love the packaging, but mine now is filthy. Don't think ill be buying a lipstick again...

  7. I also have very dry lips and find it really hard to get moisturising, nice lipsticks. I've tried the Topshop Innocent Lipstick and it didn't do much for me at all. My favourite lipstick at the moment is my 17 sheer moisture. It doesn't highlight flaky bits at all.

  8. Pretty colours, but I have dry lips :/

  9. The colours are pretty but pity about the lack of moisturization. I agree that it seems like there are better options out there. On that note... I can't believe Revlon and L'Oreal lipsticks are like 8 pounds!! That's like double what they are here!

  10. Secret Admirer looks so lovely. x

  11. Havent tried their lipsticks but I got a couple polishes which were major letdowns :(
Think they're better with shadows/blushers, those work better!

  12. I haven't tried these, but the colors look great! :)

  13. that's a shame, they look so good in their packaging!

  14. I have really dry and chapped lips too and I have the lipstick in 'whimsical' which is like a more corally version of secret admirer, and it is incredibly chalky! Especially since I have really pigmented lips and it's just not a good mix. As you say, I'll wear them, but I would definitely prefer something more moisturising. It's such a shame cos I love the colour range and the packaging. The blushes are amazing though!

  15. Lovin' your honest review :)
